Following a brief provided by researchers at the University of Edinburgh, I worked in a team to create an educational game about the life of a lab rat in order to encourage Biomed students to consider the perspective of animals in animal testing.
I had several responsibilities in the team: I was responsible for contacting the client and ensuring our progress and plans fit their vision for the game, and I was also responsible for ensuring all team members had suitable tasks to work on to keep progress running smoothly.
My main focus during the project was to design a player character that would best immerse the player in the world the clients wanted to create. The clients wanted the player to really feel like they themselves were the rat, so I made my focus of the design based around navigating as a quadruped, where the player leads the rat in a direction using the mouse, but has to account for the weight of the rats back legs making it difficult to turn sideways, but easier to navigate in straight forward direction.
This form of movement created a unique experience that helped the project stand out, alongside helping improve my understanding of implementing physics for character control
